A 24-year-old Los Angeles man was taken to a hospital and then to county jail after leading police on a one-hour freeway chase in a stolen SUV. The chase ended in downtown Los Angeles in front of the Spring Hotel. Most of the chase was uneventful, except for an empty bottle of whiskey that the driver threw at one police vehicle. When the driver got into downtown, things started to happen. He ran over a fire hydrant. The water spewed out of the hydrant, causing a geyser that ruined all the books in several carts that a vendor had put outside to attract customers into his bookstore. The driver hurriedly turned west onto Grand Avenue and managed to bang into three parked cars on one side of that street and two cars on the other side. The driver also tried to run over a police officer, who was standing in the crosswalk ordering him to halt. Turning north, the driver caused a bus to slam on its brakes to avoid a collision. The bus was empty, and the bus driver was uninjured. However, two police cars that were pursuing the SUV from different directions were not so lucky. One of them ran into the front of the bus, and the other into the back. Because the drivers had braked early enough, the damage to their cars was minor. Both officers resumed the chase. They only went two blocks north to find that the SUV had come to a full stop because it had plowed into a newspaper stand. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was slumped behind the steering wheel. The proprietor of the newsstand was yelling at the driver and shaking a magazine at him. The police called for the ambulance. They charged the driver with failure to yield to a police officer and driving under the influence. I stared at the pine tree ahead of me in alarm; very worried that my only light source had just flashed out, when I saw some movement by the side of the house. A human form was jumping between the shadows on the house's side. It looked like a shadow itself, as though someone was running through the pasture right next to me. I didn't like this, considering that I obviously don't want to see the ghosts because I ignore them constantly, so I slammed my feet into the ground. I stopped faster than I thought I would and nearly fell over, I grabbed the side of the swing set and spun around to face the back pasture. The red fence that surrounded that one was covered with shadows, and yet another shadowy form jumped between its patches of black. I felt someone watching me from behind and quickly picked up pace to get inside. Article/200906/72172上海复旦大学附属闵行医院做祛眼袋手术价格

The 2007 Berlin marathon for males over 55 was unusual in that the winner cheated. “Hank” skipped two checkpoints during the race. The electronic tracking chip that all runners must wear confirmed that Hank had run only 17 miles of the 26-mile marathon. Instead of confessing, Hank let race organizers discover the facts by themselves. He accepted the cheers and winner’s trophy. He wasn’t officially disqualified until the following day. Race organizers were angry that Hank, who was a well-known but retired politician in his native country, had accepted the winner’s trophy. “He disgraced himself and his country,” said one race official.Hank later told the media that he had never intended to run the whole Berlin marathon, as he was still tired from the San Diego marathon he had run two months earlier. Hank’s San Diego marathon time was just under 4 hours; his Berlin time was little more than 2 ? hours. Asked why he had held his arms up high as if he was the winner at the finish line, Hank said, “Everyone does that. This was my fifth marathon this year. I knew the computer chip would detect my shortcut. The organizers need to lighten up; it’s only a race.”Hank crossed the finish line wearing a floppy hat, a long-sleeved T-shirt, long pants, and a huge grin. He looked as cool as a cucumber, said a suspicious photographer. The other early finishers in the over-55 group crossed the finish line wearing sweaty T-shirts and nylon running shorts. None of them were grinning. Article/201108/149429金山区妇幼保健医院韩式三点双眼皮多少钱 A ten-year-old boy confessed to his parents that he was playing with matches on a windy day in October in southern California. The Santa Ana winds were howling that day, and his carelessness resulted in the Witch fire. That fire destroyed 18,000 acres of woodland and 12 homes. The total damage and the cost of firefighting efforts were estimated at million. Ironically, his parents’ house was untouched by the fire. The authorities did not immediately announce what they would do to the boy or his parents. An official in the district attorney’s office said that, probably, no criminal charges would be filed. But the parents would still be liable for civil charges. That is, victims could sue for their losses and rebuilding costs. Suing the middle-class family for millions would be the easy part, though; collecting the millions would be unlikely.Homeowners disagreed on what should be done. “I don’t have a house anymore,” said John Ritter. “It will take at least two years to build a new house, and my insurance is only going to pay about half the cost of the new house. Ordinarily, I would say that the boy and his parents ought to be put in jail for at least 10 years. But because their house didn’t burn down, I think the law should just allow me to trade property with them. They can have my burned-down house, and I can move into their house. That’s fair enough for me.”“We all make mistakes, especially when we’re young,” said Michael Richards, another homeowner whose house burned down. “I remember setting my sister on fire when I was about 10. I didn’t mean to do it, of course, and she jumped into the lake, so she was okay. But it could have been a terrible accident. I think the poor boy has learned a valuable lesson. People should forgive, rebuild, and get on with their lives.” Article/201106/139156奉贤区奉城医院打玻尿酸价格费用

Almost everyone considers going on a diet sometime in his or her life. All, regardless of sex and age, have something in common - losing weight and losing it fast.Though their common aim may seem basically good, they probably do not realize that misguided dieting can do more harm than good to their health. Going on too strict a diet can destroy the balance of chemicals in the human body. This happens because when the body is suddenly given much less food than usual, it feels as though it is being attacked and tries hard to protect itself by saving energy. It does this by slowing down metabolism, the process by which the food we eat is converted into energy. As energy is supplied to the body at a slower and slower rate, dieters gradually become so weak that they can do nothing. They soon lose interest in everything going on about them, and their resistance to illness becomes so low that they are easily attacked by one illness after another. Most of those who diet know that foods like rice, b, potatoes, cakes, sweets, fruits and some vegetables contain carbohydrates, and so can make one fat. What they do not realize, however, is that carbohydrates are our bodies' main source of energy, and that these foods also contain components essential for the composition of substances that are needed to keep the body healthy. As a result, they try to avoid eating these foods, and consequently, they become weaker and less healthy. They begin to have difficulty sleeping properly and start to suffer from radical mood changes. In more serious cases, they even begin to show signs of mental illness. It is strange enough that most strict diets recommend artificial sweeteners to take the place of sugar and other natural sweeteners. In fact, such artificial sweeteners actually increase one's appetite and lead to one's eating even more than usual.Of course, the fact that misguided forms of dieting result in so many problems does not mean that no dieting is safe or all dieting is harmful to the health. Proper dieting can not only help a person lose ugly excess fat, but can also help him or her to keep it off and to lead a more active, happier and healthier life. You might ask just what a proper diet is. Well, simply expressed, a proper healthy diet is one that is well-balanced, or, in other words, one that includes enough but not too many of the kinds of foods that provide the body with the nutrients that it needs to function properly. The most important of these nutrients are the macronutrients: proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The body needs fairly large amounts of proteins and carbohydrates for building material and energy. Meat, fish, eggs, milk, cream, and nuts all contain proteins and foods like rice, b, potatoes, etc. Contain carbohydrates. The body needs fat to keep it from the cold and to provide a protective layer for the organs, but only in small quantities.Vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, are another group of essential nutrients, though the body does not need as great a quantity of these as it does the macronutrients - proteins, carbohydrates and fats. There are two types of vitamins, water-soluble vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins like vitamin C and the B-group vitamins do not stay in the body long and so foods containing these vitamins need to be taken rather often. On the other hand, the fat-soluble vitamins, vitamins A, D, E and K stay in the body for long periods of time and so there is no need to take foods containing them so often. One way of getting enough nutrients while keeping one's weight down is to take substitutes for foods which contain too much fat. For example, instead of regular milk, one can take skimmed milk, which contains as many proteins and minerals as regular milk but has had the fat removed. In the same way, vegetable oil can be used for cooking instead of animal oil. Article/200802/27985 #39;I was just thinking of you when you were a little girl, #39;said Marilla. #39;And…you#39;re going away now…and I#39;ll be lonely without you. Anne took Marilla#39;s face in her hands, #39;Marilla, nothing will change. Perhaps I#39;m bigger and older now, but I#39;ll al-ways be your little Anne. And I#39;ll love you and Matthew and Green Gables more every day of my life. Marilla could not say what she felt, like Anne, but she could show it. She put her arms round her girl and held her close to her heart. And so for the next year Anne lived in Charlottetown, and went to college every day. She sometimes came home at week-ends, but she had to study hard. Some of her Avonlea friends were at Queen#39;s too, and also her enemy, Gilbert Blythe. Anne saw that he often walked and talked with other girls. She felt sure that she and Gilbert could have some interesting conversations. But she didn#39;t want to be the first to speak to him, and he never looked at her. There were examinations at the end of the college year, in May. Anne studied very hard for them. #39;I#39;d love to get the first place, #39;she thought. #39;Or perhaps I could get the Avery prize. #39;This was a prize for the student who was best at English writing, and Anne knew she was good at that. The Avery prize paid for a free place for four years at Redmond College, one of the best colleges in Canada.“我想得第一名,”她想。 When news of the examinations came, Anne waited for her friends to tell her. She heard shouting. #39;It#39;s Gilbert! He#39;s the first! #39; She felt ill. But just then she heard another shout. #39;Anne Shirley#39;s got the Avery! #39;And then all the girls were round her, laughing and shouting. #39;Matthew and Marilla will be pleased! #39;thought Anne. #39;Now I can go on studying, and they won#39;t have to pay!
