PM Plans To Create 100,000 Jobs Gordon Brown has unveiled plans to create up to 100,00 new jobs in a bid to combat the recession. The PM's pledge comes in an interview for today's Observer magazine. Sky's Niall Paterson reports. People don't want to start the New Year with the bang and Gordan Brown's big idea suddenly grabs the attention, creating new jobs at a time when many are losing theirs, all these are the begining of what looks like being one of the toughest period in modern British history. The Prime Minister told the Observer: I want to show how we will be able to, through public investments and public works, create probably 100,000 additional jobs... schools, hospitals, environmental work and infrastructure, transport... We are not going to stand by and allow nothing to be done when people are facing difficulties. Sooner public money will be used to found public works, providing as many as 30,000 jobs, repairing schools, helping hurted construction firms . There will be farther investments in the environmental and digital industries. Mr. Brown believes the world's economy will double over the next 20 years and Britain needs to take advantage. And further measures are promised to get banks' lending once more. Suddenly the creation of the jobs through the public works has a familiar feel to it's President Roosevelt New Deal in the 30s, was designed to lift the America out of the economic Dow Johns/but many students feel that that plan in fact prolongs the great depresion and with plenty of people who say Gorge Brown's plan will have lilttle or no effect. Unemployment currently stands at an alarming 1.9 million, the highest has been since 1997, experts see it could get as high as 3.1 million in two years time, in those circumstances, 100,000 extra jobs which could drop in the ocean. "I frankly think that the made-works scheme of this kind simplly don't work in the modern age, and I think Gordan Brown is simply desperate to make sure that the figure of 3 million is not reached." That plan's goal is a cautiously ambitious one, but the New Year's resolutions are notorious difficult to stick to, you are on Sky News, Wesminister01/60972

Watch The Queen's Christmas Message Watch Her Majesty's annual Christmas message to the ed Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Christmas is a time for celebration. But this year it is a more sombre occasion for many. Some of those things which could once have been taken for granted suddenly seem less certain, and naturally give rise to feelings of insecurity. People are touched by events which have their roots far across the world. Whether it is the global economy or violence in a distant land, effects can be keenly felt at home. Once again many of our service men and women are serving on operations in common cause to bring peace and security to troubled places. In this 90th year since the end of the First World War, the last survivors recently commemorated the service and enormous sacrifice of their own generation. Their successors in theatres such as Iraq and Afghanistan are still to be found in harm's way in the service of others. For their loved ones, the worry will never cease until they are safely home. In such times as these we can all learn some lessons from the past. We might begin to see things in a new perspective. And certainly, we begin to ask ourselves where it is that we can find lasting happiness. Over the years, those who have seemed to me to be the most happy, contented and fulfilled have always been the people who have lived the most outgoing and unselfish lives; the kind of people who are generous with their talents or their time. There are those who use their prosperity or good fortune for the benefit of others whether they number among the great philanthropists or are people who with whatever they have, simply have a desire to help those less fortunate than themselves. What they offer comes in the form of what can easily be recognized as service to the nation or service to the wider community. As often as not, however, their unselfishness is a simply taken-for-granted part of the life of their family or neighborhood. They tend to have some sense that life itself is full of blessings and is a precious gift for which we should be thankful. When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat, instead they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future.I think we have a huge amount to learn from individuals such as these. And what I believe many of us share with them is a source of strength and peace of mind in our families and friends. Indeed, Prince Philip and I can reflect on the blessing, comfort and support we have gained from our own family in this special year for our son, The Prince of Wales.60 years ago, he was baptized here in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace. As parents and grandparents, we feel great pride in seeing our family make their own unique contributions to society. Through his charities, The Prince of Wales has worked to support young people and other causes for the benefit of the wider community, and now his sons are following in his footsteps. At Christmas, we feel very fortunate to have our family around us. But for many of you, this Christmas will mean separation from loved ones and perhaps reflection on the memories of those no longer with us.I hope that, like me, you will be comforted by the example of Jesus of Nazareth who, often in circumstances of great adversity, managed to live an outgoing, unselfish and sacrificial life. Countless millions of people around the world continue to celebrate his birthday at Christmas, inspired by his teaching. He makes it clear that genuine human happiness and satisfaction lie more in giving than receiving; more in serving than in being served. We can surely be grateful that, two thousand years after the birth of Jesus, so many of us are able to draw inspiration from his life and message, and find in him a source of strength and courage. I hope that the Christmas message will encourage and sustain you, too, now and in the coming year.I wish you all a very happy Christmas.200812/60008

Recorded on 9th December 1971 in Hong Kong, Bruce Lee ... all raquo; is seen being himself, speaking candidly and informally about his life, his martial art beliefs and philosophy. Through the programme Bruce's supreme confidence, charisma and focus provide a tremendous insight into the young Bruce Lee - the man behind the legend.Well, I mean, definitely, in the beginning, I had no intention or whatsoever, that what I was practising and what I’m still practising now would lead to this, [Yeah, I know] to begin with. But martial art has a very, very deep meaning as far as my life is concerned because as an actor, as a martial artist, as a human being, all these I have learned from martial art.Maybe for our audience who doesn’t know what it means, you might explain exactly (All right) what you mean by martial art. Right. Martial art include all the combative arts like karate, judo, Chinese kung fu, or Chinese boxing whatever you call it , all those, you see like aikido. I can go on and on and on. But it’s a combative form of fighting, I mean it’s not, some of them became sport but some of them are still not, I mean, they are used, for instance, kicking to the groin, jabbing fingers in the eyes and things like that.No wonder you are successful in it. Chinese movies are full of this kind of action anyway. They needed a guy like you could....[Violence man]So you didn’t have to use a double when you moved in the motion picture role here, you did it all yourself? Can you break five or six pieces of wood with your hand or your foot?I’ll probably break my hand and foot. But tell me a little bit, you set up a school in Hollywood, didn’t you? For people like James Gardner, Steve McQueen and the others.[Yes.] Why would they want to learn Chinese martial art, because of a movie role? Not really, most of them, you see, to me, at least the way that when, I mean, when I teach it, all type of knowledge ultimately means self knowledge. So therefore they’re coming in to, I mean, for, and ask me to teach them not so much of how to defend themselves or how to do somebody in. Rather, they want to learn to express themselves through some movement, be it anger, be it determination or whatsoever. So in other words, what I'm saying therefore is that he’s paying me to show him in combative form the art of expressing the human body.Which is acting in a sense,[Well..] or it would be a useful tool for an actor to have? It’s, I mean, I might, it might sound too philosophical, but it’s unacting acting or acting unacting, if you...You’ve lost me.I have, so what I’m saying, actually you see, I mean, is a combination of both, I mean here is the natural instinct, and here is control. You are to combine the two in harmony, not, if you have one to the extreme, you’ll be very unscientific.02/62420Australia should be a republic: PMAustralia should move to be a republic when reign of Queen Elizabeth II ends, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Tuesday.Gillard also planned to lead a national debate on republic after the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, 84, ends. The prime minister said that despite being a republican, she understood that Australians had a "deep affection" for the British monarch."What I would like to see as prime minister is that we work our way through to an agreement on a model for the republic," Gillard told reporters in Townsville of Queensland."I think the appropriate time for this nation to move to be a republic is when we see the monarch change."Obviously I'm hoping for Queen Elizabeth that she lives a long and happy life, and having watched her mother I think there's every chance that she will."According to A News, Gillard's comments put her absolutely at odds with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who is a staunch monarchist and was at the center of the anti-republican cause in the 1999 referendum, which rejected the notion of change.Since Federation on January 1, 1901, Australia has maintained a stable liberal democratic political system and is a Commonwealth realm, which has Elizabeth II as its monarch. The comments reveal one of the few areas of genuine difference between the candidates ahead of Saturday's elections, where Gillard is leading Abbott by four percentage points, according to the latest Newspoll.Vocabulary:at odds with: at variance; in disagreement with(争执,不一致)monarchist: 君主制主义者背单词 — 装英语词汇201008/111663

Harry's visit to troop rehab unitPrince Harry is reunited with a badly injured Royal Marine he trained with before being sent to Afghanistan.Prince Harry has been reunited with a badly injured Royal Marine he trained with before being sent to Afghanistan, every question with that and more today's news. The prince and his elder brother William were touring the Headley Court Rehabilitation Center for injured troops. They met some of the 50 soldiers currently receiving treatment there, among them, 24-year-old Marine Mark Ormrod, who lost an arm and both his legs when he stepped on a mine in Afghanistan. A visit from two royals who talk their language. Soldiers convalescing at Headley Court said the princes were down to earth so much so that the bands are flowed as they lined up for the obligating photo call. Here at the front of **, a comment from one corporal to an amputee, "Prince William even joins in, his suggestion that doubled amputee Marine Mark Ormrod drew a few hand-break turns gets a laugh."But William's boast about his football team's success over the weekend didn't impress his brother. Humors are lighting the mood, but Harry knows more than most what these men have been through. Two soldiers who've stepped on a landmine have been on his untimely flight home from his own tour of Afghanistan. Two injured guys who came back on the plane with us who were essentially comatose throughout the whole way. One who had lost two limbs, a left arm and a right leg. Mark Ormrod was trained with Harry before leaving for Helmand province. He lost both legs and an arm after stepping on a landmine on Christmas Eve. Convalescing here has helped him enormously. It's not a big issue, while I never see someone finishing off themselves, you see them crack on the bottom, smile every day and, get through at it, and then you think, yeah, why not? We are all wanting to get like that, aren't we?. You just crack on certain. The Princes' visit coincides with the fundraising event next month called "City solute", designed to raise enough money for a full-size swimming pool here, a desirable but not essential facility, according to the MAD, so charitable help is needed. It enhances what we do and it really does underline our potential in terms of rehabilitating, the injured soldiers, the sailors and the airmen and rather than, you know, you know if we didn't have the pool. If I had the pool, I could get better quicker and I'll be out of here, and there'll have more space for more serious injuries, I mean,I don't know if you've been told or aware, that there is a waiting list to come in. you know, in this, about month-long.The Princes arrived and left by car today after the last week's quick trip to his girlfriend in an RAF Chinook, Prince Williams....200811/54978The arrest of Wall Street legend Bernard Madoff has clients in a panic that their wealth may be gone. When I was about 12 years old, I remember at Christmas one year being ashamed of how much I liked it because of all the presents I got. It's a pretty complicated thought for a 12 year old kid but I had it. I've always liked presents though. People send me a lot of things and I wish they wouldn't but I can't help liking them. Look at this - just a few of the things that have come in recently: this is a bottle of some kind of sauce. Now it's probably very good and from some one who likes me but it could be very bad and from someone who hates me too, so I don't dare eat it. Someone sent me this sports whistle. Why would anyone send me a whistle? The package says it's made of solid brass. It's triple plated and it has an extra sharp tone. Well good for it. But I certainly wouldn't want a whistle that was only double plated and made of brass that wasn't solid. This goes under a door to keep the draft out. Someone's idea of what John McCain and Barack Obama look like. Not my idea of what either of them look like but what do I know? "The American Government In Action" - this is a game. I never cared much for games. There's enough to play with in real life. "The Baseball Dictionary." This book has a lot more than I want to know about baseball. I'm a football fan. Baseball is too caught up with numbers for me. This is a pair of socks; I don't know who they’re for. They come up over my knees. I don’t know what these two bags are for - why would I want two of them anyway? This is called Almond Orange Honey. Seems like a good idea and the bees are certainly done a good job, but I never liked honey. I said I liked fudge and that I never got any good fudge anymore - I haven't had any good fudge in years - so a lot of people sent me good fudge. And I guess it's good. I haven't eaten all if it yet. I said I shine my own shoes. The letter that came with this stuff says it brings leather back to life. Nice to think about bringing leather back to life isn't it? I'll see if this brings my shoes back to life. I just hope my shoes don't eat my fudge.07/78634

Jun 30th 2011 | SAN FRANCISCO | from the print editionSINCE the start of this year, Google’s share price has fallen steadily as investors have begun to fret about its longer-term prospects. Now they have another reason to worry. On June 24th the company revealed that America’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had opened a broad investigation into its online-search and online-advertising businesses to see if it has abused its dominant position. Some pundits predict that the trustbusters’ tussle with Google could turn as bloody as their battle with Microsoft in the 1990s. The regulators’ move comes at an awkward time for Google, which faces a growing threat from Facebook, the world’s biggest social network. Facebook aims to supplant Google as the main conduit via which people access the web. On June 28th Google hit back, unveiling Google+, a social-network platform to rival Facebook. Google’s new offering, which is still in trial form, boasts some handy features. It makes it easy to set up separate groups, thus sparing your boss from seeing your semi-clothed and inebriated party snaps. It also lets up to ten people hold a chat together. But this will probably not be enough to get people to abandon Facebook, which benefits from a powerful network effect: people join it because most of their friends aly have. Still, Google’s determination to keep innovating has served it well in its core business of search, where it commands nearly two-thirds of the market in America and an even higher share elsewhere (see chart). It is this dominance that has attracted regulators’ attention in America and abroad. Last November the European Commission announced a similarly sweeping review of Google’s operations. 201107/144255。

In America, a red mist. This week’s tour of European capitals by Wen Jiabao, China’s prime minister, underlined the stark transatlantic difference in responses to China’s economic clout. European leaders, caught up in the euro area’s crisis, want China to buy more of their debt; American politicians worry that it owns too much of theirs. For European politicians the value of the yuan is one worry among many; it sometimes feels like Americans can think of little else. In Europe, Chinese firms are broadly welcome; in America, they are often viewed with suspicion. Europe’s receptiveness to China is born partly of weakness. Delegations from peripheral euro-zone countries have been flying into Beijing to seek buyers of their debt. Fixers working for Chinese companies report a steady stream of inquiries from cash-strapped European firms. But even among Europe’s stronger economies, the political bias is to promote investment from China, not deter it. 201107/143055

Gaza officials put the Palestinian death toll from the week-long Israeli operations at around 500. Israeli soldiers crossed the border under cover of darkness Saturday night and fanned out across areas of the northern Gaza Strip. Troops and tanks are reported to have moved into positions, including around Gaza City. Tanks are reported dug in at some former Israeli settlements in Gaza and the military action is reported to have effectively cut the Gaza Strip in two between north and south. Israel used its infantry, tanks, artillery, war planes and navy to hit more than 40 targets just overnight. Speaking before an Israeli cabinet meeting Sunday, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the decision to launch the ground offensive was made Friday. Mr. Olmert said the decision was not made lightly and only after months of waiting and after hopes for calm were dashed. Mr. Olmert vowed that the government did everything before deciding on this operation. "It was unavoidable," he said. Israel has said all along it had no choice but to launch military action after talks with Hamas on extending a cease-fire broke down in December and militants stepped up rocket fire against southern Israel. Israel initially launched air strikes just over a week ago, pounding targets it said were linked to Hamas and its infrastructure in Gaza. But, Hamas has remained defiant, warning that it would turn Gaza into a graveyard for the Israelis.Casualties are reported on both sides, including Israeli soldiers, Hamas fighters and Palestinian civilians, including children. According to tallies by medical officials in Gaza the Palestinian death toll from Israeli military operations is now around 500. 01/60445

Imagine you could find an explanation for anything in the universe from the smallest events possible to the biggest. This is the dream which has captivated the most brilliant scientists and science staff. Now they think they may have found it.The theory is breathtaking and has an extraordinary conclusion that the universe were living is not the only one. ;There could be an infinite numbers of universes each with a different law of physics. Our universe could be just one bubble floating in an ocean of other bubbles.;可能会有无限量的宇宙,每一个都有不同的物理规律。 ;Everything you are about to hear is true,at least in this universe it is. For almost a hundred years, science has been haunted by a dark secret, that there might be mysterious hidden worlds beyond our human senses.Mistakes had long claimed there were such places. They were they said full of ghosts and spirits. The last thing science wanted was to be associated with such superstition. But ever since the 1920s,physicists have been tried to make sense of an uncomfortable discovery. When they tried to pinpoint the exact location of atomic particles like electrons, they found it was utterly impossible. They had no single location. ;When went studies Puppis and ylems,we found the reality is foreign strangers than anybody would have invented in the former infection.Part of views really do have the possibility of in some sense being in more than one place at one time.;;在研究的过程中,我们发现现实是外界陌生人会比一些人在早先感染前就已经发明出来了。 ;The only explanation which anyone could come up with is that the particles dont just exist in our universe. They flee into existence in other universes too,and there are an infinite number of these parallel universes. All of them slightly different. In a fact, theres parallel universe in which Napoleon won the battle of Waterloo. In another, the british empire held on to its American colony. In one you re never born. ;Essentially anything that can happen, does happen in one of the alternatives, which means thats superimposed on top of the universe that we know of,is alternative universe when Al Gore, as a president,is still alive.;;本质上任何事情都可能发生,以另外一种选择发生,这意味着在我们知道的宇宙的基础上产生了叠加,它是另一个世界。 ;Beside it was so uncomfortable that for decades scientists dismissed it. 叠加2. infinite a. 无限的3. exist v.
