Lake of AutumnI remember quite clearly now when the story happened. The autumn leaves were floating in measure down to the ground, recovering the lake, where we used to swim like children, under the sun was there to shine. That time we used to be happy. Well, I thought we were. But the truth was that you had been longing to leave me; not daring to tell me. On that precious night, watching the lake, vaguely conscious, you said, “Our story is ending.”The rain was killing the last days of summer, you had been killing my last breath of love since a long time ago. I still don’t think I’m goanna make it through another love story. You took it all away from me. And there I stand; I know I was going to be the one left behind. But still I am watching the lake, vaguely conscious, and I know my life is ending. Article/200904/18065To my surprise, I woke up in my bed the next morning. I thought I was dreaming and that I would have to go through that boring school day again, but as I sat up, a sharp pain cut through my stomach. I lifted up my top and saw a knife shaped wound. My mum came in my room, and saw I was awake. She asked if I was ok now and I asked her what had happened. She showed me a newspaper article about a guy who had been going around dressed as Jack the Ripper and killing girls. He claimed to be Jack's grandson. I asked if that was the guy who did the same thing to me, and why he didn't kill me. She said that someone had seen me fall and ran to help me, the person had also said that he had seen a man run away as he approached. I asked if we could send a card to the man to thank him but my mum said that there was no need as he was in the sitting room. I got out of bed and went downstairs to thank him. When I got there, the guy looked like he was really tall. My dad was in there talking to me and he told me the story of how the guy was feeling when he saw the Ripper guy run away. I went to shake the mans hand, and froze in fear, when the man smiled, his teeth were yellow, and they had cracks stained with something red... Article/200809/48569

My favourite subject at school was history. I don’t know why. I loved ing the stories about famous people and famous events. When I was little, history was just stories. As I got older, I realized history is the study of how we got here today. It’s a long journey that describes all the wars, great people, inventions, disasters, etc that have brought us to this point in time. I now love any kind of history. It’s fascinating to visit a new country and learn about its history. Watching the news today is like seeing history unfold. Lots of the things I learnt at school now make the news more interesting. History provides us with the perfect background information to a news story. Article/201105/135580

There was just enough moonlight for him to see the bottom of his door, so he blew out his candle and unsheathed his sword. Then he stood waiting. He watched for hours wondering what the snake might do. What if it slithered through the window instead, crept up behind him, and struck him with its venomous fangs? What if it slithered to the top of the wardrobe and dropped down from above? He was thinking of fleeing for his life, when he finally saw the snake glide under the door-first its head, then its body, then its tail. Slash! He swung the sword so quickly that the snake had no warning. And the tip of its tail began writhing, all by itself, there on the floor. The snake raised its head as if to strike, but then it hissed viciously and slithered out of the room. And when he looked down the hall, he saw it disappear under his uncle's door. The young man couldn't stand looking at that quivering tail, so he scooped it up with his sword and flung it in a drawer. He hardly slept all that night, and when he did snakes chased him through his dreams. The next morning, he opened the drawer a crack to look at the snake's tail and was amazed to see that it had turned into human toes. Article/200809/50172

For the last two years, the Los Angeles area has seen an increasing number of metal thefts, reported Paul Moyer, co-anchor of the local 6 o’clock news. Sometime before dawn Wednesday, thieves had stolen the copper wire out of six lamp posts. A day earlier, a heavy 7-foot-tall bronze statue of a gold miner in West LA had disappeared. Eight manhole covers in downtown LA had been removed three nights earlier. At least twice a week, Moyer reported, thieves steal copper from construction sites. All this metal is sold as scrap. The price of copper today is six times what it was just six years ago. Even the federal government is reducing production of pennies, because it now takes two cents worth of copper to produce a one-cent penny. LA’s police chief, Bill Bratton, promised that he was going to increase the number of cameras and live patrols around statues and all outdoor metal sculptures in LA. He said that metal thieves were destroying LA’s “cultural history.” He reminded thieves that they were endangering their own lives when they cut into live wires, and they were endangering drivers’ lives when they removed manhole covers.Moyer, famous for his wit, ended his special report by joking that it was a good thing that the Statue of Liberty was not in Los Angeles harbor. “I bet that would be worth a pretty penny,” chuckled his blonde co-anchor. My mom was now, just outside the door to Mister's store and the spider thought it had its chance to kill her and got y to spring. But at that very moment, Mister exchanged places with my mother to go out of the store first saying, "I will take care of it, I'm sure he won't harm me." The spider jumped and it killed Mister, as the police sirens could be heard in the distance. I woke up screaming at the top of my lungs, "No, don't kill him, don't kill Mister, don't kill Mister!!!" continuing to sob uncontrollably. My mother was aly awake as she realized I was crying in my sleep. Honey, it's a bad dream, it's a bad dream don't cry. I said, "No, no it's not, Mister is dead, Mister is dead." My mother got me to go back to sleep by promising she would take me to visit Mister in the morning. As soon as it was light, I was anxious to see Mister, and mom true to her word took me to Mister's store as soon as we finished breakfast. We walked into the store and found everyone crying, Mister had died of a heart attack that very night. I knew that horrible evil spider had killed him, and if he had not gotten in the way it would have killed my mom instead. Now I believe that spider actually represented death, and that it had come for my mother, but Mister saved her life by giving his. Article/200901/61551。

6The Lord said to Moses, 2"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of separation to the Lord as a Nazirite, 3he must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or from other fermented drink. He must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins. 4As long as he is a Nazirite, he must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins. 5" 'During the entire period of his vow of separation no razor may be used on his head. He must be holy until the period of his separation to the Lord is over; he must let the hair of his head grow long. 6Throughout the period of his separation to the Lord he must not go near a dead body. 7Even if his own father or mother or brother or sister dies, he must not make himself ceremonially unclean on account of them, because the symbol of his separation to God is on his head. 8Throughout the period of his separation he is consecrated to the Lord . 9" 'If someone dies suddenly in his presence, thus defiling the hair he has dedicated, he must shave his head on the day of his cleansing-the seventh day. 10Then on the eighth day he must bring two doves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 11The priest is to offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make atonement for him because he sinned by being in the presence of the dead body. That same day he is to consecrate his head. 12He must dedicate himself to the Lord for the period of his separation and must bring a year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. The previous days do not count, because he became defiled during his separation. 13" 'Now this is the law for the Nazirite when the period of his separation is over. He is to be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 14There he is to present his offerings to the Lord : a year-old male lamb without defect for a burnt offering, a year-old ewe lamb without defect for a sin offering, a ram without defect for a fellowship offering, 15together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and a basket of b made without yeast-cakes made of fine flour mixed with oil, and wafers sp with oil. 16" 'The priest is to present them before the Lord and make the sin offering and the burnt offering. 17He is to present the basket of unleavened b and is to sacrifice the ram as a fellowship offering to the Lord , together with its grain offering and drink offering. 18" 'Then at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the Nazirite must shave off the hair that he dedicated. He is to take the hair and put it in the fire that is under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering. 19" 'After the Nazirite has shaved off the hair of his dedication, the priest is to place in his hands a boiled shoulder of the ram, and a cake and a wafer from the basket, both made without yeast. 20The priest shall then wave them before the Lord as a wave offering; they are holy and belong to the priest, together with the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine. 21" 'This is the law of the Nazirite who vows his offering to the Lord in accordance with his separation, in addition to whatever else he can afford. He must fulfill the vow he has made, according to the law of the Nazirite.' " 22The Lord said to Moses, 23"Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: 24" ' "The Lord bless you and keep you; 25the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." ' 27"So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them." It’s almost as though they live in a totally different world to the rest of us. Every day they are told how beautiful they are. I’m sure this affects them in some way. They constantly think about their beauty and their figure. Male models too. A lot of female models also have to be very strict with what they eat so they don’t put on weight. Today, a model has to be size zero to be successful. This is unhealthy. The sad thing is that many normal girls want to look like a model so they end up having health problems. I suppose the life of a model is glamorous. The supermodels fly all over the world. They walk the catwalks at fashion shows and visit exotic locations for photo shoots. And get paid big money. It's scary if you think about it. You have to look after a tiny baby for years and years. It is your duty to make sure that little baby grows up into a wonderful, happy and responsible human being. Parenting means knowing everything from day one. This is a shock to many parents. I didn’t have any parenting lessons. I suddenly had a baby to look after. But it's not that scary. In fact, parenting is life's biggest joy. I can't put into words how wonderful it is to be a parent. My biggest worry is that society doesn't focus on parenting. We really should have classes at school on being good parents. I'm sure we would reduce the number of problems in society if we did this. Article/201106/141835

He said as little as he had ever been in the habit of saying; made no mention of the business that had taken him away, and it was some time before his daughters had courage to speak of it.班纳特先生回到家里,仍然是那一副乐天安命的样子。他还是象平常一样不多说话,根本不提起他这次外出是为了什么事情,女儿们也过了好久才敢提起。 Article/201204/179908
