Ive taken that Robert Kennedy e, and Ive turned it into a new balance sheet for just a moment here. This is a collection of things that Robert Kennedy said in that e. GDP counts everything from air pollution to the destruction of our redwoods. But it doesnt count the health of our children or the integrity of our public officials. As you look at these two columns here, doesnt it make you feel like its time for us to start figuring out a new way to count, a new way to imagine whats important to us in life? Certainly Robert Kennedy suggested at the end of the speech exactly that. He said GDP ;measures everything in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.; Wow. So how do we do that? Let me say one thing we can just start doing ten years from now, at least in this country. Why in the heck in America are we doing a census in 2010? Were spending 10 billion dollars on the census. Were asking 10 simple questions -- it is simplicity. But all of those questions are tangible. Theyre about demographics. Theyre about where you live, how many people you live with, and whether you own your home or not. Thats about it. Were not asking meaningful metrics. Were not asking important questions. Were not asking anything thats intangible. Abe Maslow said long ago something youve heard before, but you didnt realize it was him. He said, ;If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.; 201402/275641You will change the world你们将能改变世界Let that sink in记住这一点You will change the world你们将能改变世界I want you to take the craziest dream youve ever had我要你们勇敢去做最疯狂的梦that dream that youre too embarrassed to tell anyone about哪怕这个梦想让你觉得讲出来很不好意思and I want you to go out there我希望你们努力去实现I want you to make it a reality努力让梦想变为现实I dont want you to dream. I want you to do除了梦想 我还希望你们着手去做Let me tell you about this dream that I had, this crazy dream我给你们讲讲我做过的疯狂的梦Its 10 years ago这是十年前Ive decided to run the New York City marathon我决定去跑纽约市马拉松赛I want to raise money for the public school system希望借此给公立学校系统筹钱I raise million我要筹两百万美元I even got a call from Oprah欧普拉还打电话给我who said that if I beat her marathon time如果我能突破她的马拉松时间she would donate a lot of money to the course她愿意为我捐很多钱but there was a catch但这有个问题I had to finish the whole thing. I had to finish the entire race我需要跑完整个马拉松赛Now the marathon is 26.2 miles马拉松全长26.2英里Have any of you been on a tmill for one mile?你们在跑步机上跑过哪怕1英里吗With 26.2 miles这可是26.2英里there were a lot of brothers and sisters running that thing有很多兄弟都在参赛Now heres the crazy point疯狂的地方在这里the recommended training time for marathon is six months马拉松的推荐训练时间是六个月but I came up with this idea where only eight weeks left to train但我想到要跑马拉松时 只剩下八周训练时间only had eight weeks只有八周Nobody believed I would finish, everybody thought I was crazy没人相信我能完成 大家都认为我疯了but there was something in me that just wouldnt listen to them不过我不会听别人怎么说我201501/353065And the same with, for instance, Tetris, original version, the Soviet one. And you know, the amount of work...你们知道,这个工作量…yeah, Alexey Pajitnov was working for the Soviet government好吧,Alexey Pajitnov那时正为苏联政府工作,and thats how he developed Tetris,这也是他如何开发了俄罗斯方块。and Alexey himself reconstructed the whole gameAlexey自己又重建了整个游戏,and even gave us a simulation of the cathode ray tube that makes it look slightly bombed. And its fantastic. So behind these acquisitions is an enormous amount of work,在这些收购品的背后是无比巨大的工作量,because were still the Museum of Modern Art,因为我们仍然是现代艺术物馆,so even when we tackle popular culture,所以纵使我们正视通俗文化,we tackle it as a form of interaction design我们视它为交互设计的一种形式,and as something that has to go into the collection at MoMA,现代艺术物馆必须收藏的藏品。therefore, has to be researched. So to get to choosing Eric Chahis wonderful Another World, amongst others,让我们从众多中,选择Eric Chahi的美好的《另一个世界》来看,we put together a panel of experts, and we worked on this acquisition,我们组织了一个专家小组,为这个收购而努力,and its mostly myself and Kate Carmody and Paul Galloway. Paul GallowayWe worked on it for a year and a half. So many people helped us a designers of games, you might know Jamin Warren有很多人帮助了我们,游戏的设计师们,你们可能知道Jamin Warren, and his collaborators at Kill Screen magazine, and you know, Kevin Slavin. You name it. We bugged everybody, because we knew that we were ignorant. We were not real gamers enough, so we had to really talk to them. And so we decided, of course, to have Sim City 2000,所以我们决定拥有《模拟城市2000》,not the other Sim City, that one in particular,当然不是其它版本的《模拟城市》,尤其是那一版,so the criteria that we developed along the way were really strong, and were not only criteria of selection. They were also criteria of exhibition and of preservation. Thats what makes this acquisition more than a little game or a little joke. Its truly a way to think of how to preserve这真的是一种思路考虑如何保存and show artifacts that will more and more become part of our lives in the future. We live today, as you know very well, not in the digital,我们生活在当下,正如你很清楚的那样,不是在数字中,not in the physical, but in the kind of minestrone that our mind makes of the two. And thats really where interaction lies, and thats the importance of interaction. And in order to explain interaction, we need to really为了解释交互作用,bring people in and make them realize how interaction is part of their lives. So when I talk about it, I dont talk only about games,当我谈论它的时候,我不会只说,which are in a way the purest form of interaction, unadulterated by any kind of function or finality. I also talk about the MetroCard vending machine,我还会讲捷运卡自动售货机,which I consider a masterpiece of interaction. I mean, that interface is beautiful. It looks like a burly MTA guy coming out of the tunnel. You know, with your mitt you can actually paw the MetroCard,你们知道,带着手套你依然可以笨拙去拿捷运卡。and I talk about how bad ATM machines usually are. So I let people understand that its up to them to know how to judge interaction所以我想让人们明白,由他们自己决定该如何评判交互作用,so as to know when its good or when its bad. So when I show The Sims,当我展出《模拟人生》时,I try to make people really feel what it meant to have an interaction with The Sims,我努力想让人们真正地感受到,与《模拟人生》交互到底意味着什么,not only the fun but also the responsibility that came with the Tamagotchi. You know, games can be truly deep even when theyre completely mindless. 201512/414337It has now been three months since the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut. Three months since we lost 20 innocent children and six dedicated adults who had so much left to give. Three months since we, as Americans, began asking ourselves if were really doing enough to protect our communities and keep our children safe. For the families who lost a loved one on that terrible day, three months doesnt even begin to ease the pain theyre feeling right now. It doesnt come close to mending the wounds that may never fully heal. But as a nation, the last three months have changed us. Theyve forced us to answer some difficult questions about what we can do—what we must do—to prevent the kinds of massacres weve seen in Newtown and Aurora and Oak Creek, as well as the everyday tragedies that happen far too often in big cities and small towns all across America. Today there is still genuine disagreement among well-meaning people about what steps we should take to reduce the epidemic of gun violence in this country. But you—the American people—have spoken. Youve made it clear that its time to do something. And over the last few weeks, Senators here in Washington have listened and taken some big steps forward. Two weeks ago, the Senate advanced a bill that would make it harder for criminals and people with a severe mental illness from getting their hands on a gun. an idea supported by nine out of ten Americans, including a majority of gun owners. The Senate also made progress on a bill that would crack down on anyone who buys a gun as part of a scheme to funnel it to criminals–reducing violent crime and protecting our law enforcement officers. Finally, the Senate took steps to reinstate and strengthen a ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons, set a 10-round limit for magazines, and make our schools safer places for kids to learn and grow. These ideas shouldnt be controversial—theyre common sense. Theyre supported by a majority of the American people. And I urge the Senate and the House to give each of them a vote. As Ive said before, we may not be able to prevent every act of violence in this country. But together, we have an obligation to try. We have an obligation to do what we can. Right now, we have a real chance to reduce gun violence in America, and prevent the very worst violence. We have a unique opportunity to reaffirm our tradition of responsible gun ownership, and also do more to keep guns out of the hands of criminals or people with a severe mental illness. Weve made progress over the last three months, but were not there yet. And in the weeks ahead, I hope Members of Congress will join me in finishing the job—for our communities and, most importantly, for our kids. Thanks. 201303/232620My call to action is this build and protect that roommate relationship between the East and West. Value this relationship and take ownership of it. Dont come to Oxford as an exchange student from Taiwan. and only hang out with other Chinese students. Why would you do that? You could do that back in Wuhan or Nanjing or wherever you came from. Dont buy into the headlines or the stereotypes or in the hyper-nationalism. Think for yourselves, and this goes for the East and the West, both. Get to know one another and think for yourselves and dont believe the hype. For a moment, if we could just disregard the governments and what the media are saying, just for the sake of the argument. With our own tools of critical thinking, can we build relationships that actually see one another as individual human beings and not faceless members of a particular ethnicity or nationality?Of course we can do that. And thats the goal and dream, I think of the romantic artists and the musicians. I think its always been there. And thats what I wish for and thats what makes music and arts so powerful and so true. It breaks down instantly, disintegrates, all the artificial barriers that weve created between each other, government, nationality, black, brown, yellow, white, whatever colour you are and shows each other our hearts, our fears, our hopes and our dreams. And it turns out in end that the East isnt that far after all, and the West, well the West, arent so wild. And through understanding each others popular cultures, we gain insight into each others hearts and true selves. And for those of you who are just beginning that journey to the West and East. I want to invite you today on this amazing journey with me, and I, as an experienced traveller on this road on the West to East road. Ive prepared a mixtape for all of you today of ten songs that I love. 201507/385480

So very seldom do we really pay attention to the fact that life does have rules if you look for them My wife and I recently went to a basketball game in Stanford University of Colorado vs. Stanford And we were sitting in the Colorado seats up in the nosebleed section I got recognized They put me down in the front row of the Stanford athletic directors box There we were My wife and I wearing Cal colors, rooting for Colorado And from early on in life we learn just to be loyal to our school my school, right or wrong; my team, right or wrong Am I just be, what city I happen to live in, does that make me a better person because Im in a city that has a better team? Not really We have to understand its still lighthearted Its a game Its a fun ritual that sort of thing Because eventually in life we start saying ;my country, right or wrong; rather than asking questions and 因为最后我们在生活中会开始说;忠于我的国家 无论对错; 而不会提出疑问 really challenging things that boil down to a lot of violence and death in the world 不会真正地去挑战那些在世界上造成许多暴力和死亡的事物 I was brought up taught that there are people that are strong and use their muscles and their power and they are forced to get somewhere Its called ;bround;, bullies push you around And I wanted to be the other side, the brain side The brain was really important for the future of a person and for the future of all of us So thats where I stand I want always to be on the brain side Berkeley. I wanted to attend Berkeley because it was a symbol of intellectual thought Back in those counterculture times when people were talking about it being OK to live life different ways that life could be different The intellectuals were the universities They were challenging a lot of the accepted wisdom and ways that we lived our life

I hope that you understand that this day is not just the culmination of your own dreams我希望你们理解 今天并不只是你们自己梦想的实现but the realization of the dreams of so many who came before you今天同时也是很多前人梦想的实现And you should be so proud, and so happy, and so excited about your futures你们应当对自己的未来感到自豪 高兴和激动But what you shouldnt be is satisfied但你们不能够就此满足See, because原因在于while it is a wonderful thing that all of you are here today没错 你们今天都取得了很棒的成就we have to ask ourselves但你们需要想想what about all those geniuses who never get this chance那些没能得到这种机会的人们Im talking about the young people from right here in New Orleans我说的是新奥尔良以及全国范围内and across the country who arent part of a commencement like this one today没有机会参加这种毕业典礼的年轻人kids no different from all of us, kids who never made it out of high school他们很多人同我们一样 但却没有成功读上大学The fact is that today, the high school graduation rate for black students is improving现如今 黑人学生的高中毕业率正在改善but it is still lower than just about any other group in this country但相比国内其它群体仍然较低And while college graduation rates have risen for nearly every other demographic尽管所有群体的大学毕业率数字都在提高including African American women包括非裔美国女性the college graduation rate for African American men has flatlined但非裔美国男性的大学毕业率却仅与之前持平See, and the thing is, when our young people fall behind like that in school年轻人一旦在学校里落后they fall behind in life就会在生活中落后Last year, African Americans were more than twice as likely as whites to be unemployed去年 非裔美国人的失业率比白人高一倍有余They were almost three times as likely to live in poverty贫困率是白人的三倍And they were far more likely to end up in prison or be the victims of violent crimes成为暴力犯罪受害者或罪犯的比率也比白人高很多201503/366304
